Hove train stabling project certified BREEAM Infrastructure Excellent

The Hove train stabling project near Lillehammer has been certified BREEAM Infrastructure Excellent, with a score of 76.69%.

The certification recognises the project's systematic work on sustainability, climate and resource efficiency throughout the construction period.

The project was delivered for Bane NOR. Baneservice was joined by Gjerdalen Entreprenør as groundworks subcontractor and Multiconsult as consultant. The ambition was to go beyond the contractual sustainability requirements, and the certification results show that this was achieved.

The measures that contributed to the certification include extensive reuse of track and signalling materials, reuse of cable ducts and routing, the use of composite sleepers and a high proportion of electric machinery during construction. The project also chose to dismantle and rebuild an existing building rather than demolishing it and building a new one.

The measures have delivered significant gains. The project achieved a 34% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared with the original targets, while 68% of materials were reused. Around 99% of surplus material was managed and reused on site.

The project also placed strong emphasis on protecting biodiversity, water resources and the local area through targeted environmental measures and close dialogue with neighbours and stakeholders.
